Abstract

The implementation of evidence based programmes and strategies is critical to successfully achieving programmatic objectives. Additionally, building strong infrastructure and capacity is fundamental to sustainability. Yet defining, measuring, monitoring and evaluating such concepts raises persistent challenges. The Interactive Systems Framework (ISF) defines three related systems: the research synthesis, prevention support and prevention delivery systems. The ISF has been used, by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to develop and evaluate violence and injury prevention programmes. The presenter will discuss this framework; review examples of its application to injury and violence prevention programming; and describe the benefits and limitations of this system-based model, for both programme planning, implementation and evaluation.
