Open Access: Global Burden of Disease Supplement

When it comes to rates of different injuries, answers to questions such as why, how, where, what, when etc. are key to improving knowledge and informing effective measures of prevention and treatment. The Global Burden of Disease Study aims to investigate and understand trends across injuries on broad levels.

In this series of articles, the researchers frame a number of compelling questions that are germane to dialogue on injury prevention but with a local perspective to highlight disparities between countries and regions. This empowers researchers and policy makers who are positioned to investigate and intervene on these issues in their territories, with the ultimate aim of making the world a safer place and decreasing inequities between regions.

The supplement is open access. There is an accompanying free audio podcast interview with Erin Hamilton from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, Seattle and a blog post about trends in the incidence of drowning by Erin and two co-authors.
