2013, Safety ScienceCitation Excerpt :Once the unit risk of the activities are computed by multiplying the frequency by the cost for each severity level, one can see that the activity with the highest risk is operating equipment near energized power lines ($9,295.00 per 200,000 w h). This is not surprising, as other studies have shown the significance of considering safety while working with equipment in the vicinity of power lines (e.g., Hinze and Bren, 1996; Homce et al., 2001; Still et al., 1997). According to Hinze and Bren (1996), about 60% of accidents occur when equipment comes in contact with power lines.
