2020, Accident Analysis and PreventionCitation Excerpt :Previous studies, which compared the distance-based and time-based crash risk ratios by driver age category and gender, have suggested that the length of driving time was a feasible measure for driving exposure (Chipman et al., 1992, 1993). However, the driving distance and the length of driving time used by Chipman et al. (1992, 1993) were collected by a survey conducted in the fall of 1988, in Ontario, Canada. Their findings may not be generalizable to the U.S. roadway system for recent years.
