2022, Safety ScienceCitation Excerpt :The careful observations of the violation patterns showed that the latter half of the red phase is the violation-dense period, which indicates that the pedestrians become impatient after waiting for too long and start crossing. The result was cross validated by the MLR model that suggested that violation prevalence increased with the increase in waiting time of pedestrians, which is consistent with past studies (Brosseau et al., 2013; Garder, 1989). However, Diependaele (2019) contradicted the finding and reported that red light violations increase with a decrease in the waiting time.
