Child and adolescent risk behaviors
2023, Encyclopedia of Child and Adolescent Health, First EditionTrajectory of service use among Albertan youth with complex service need
2019, Children and Youth Services ReviewCitation Excerpt :The strength of clustering is that clustering groups individuals together by similarity (Kaufman, 1990; Krishnapuram et al., 2001; Park & Jun, 2009; Vlachos, Kollios, & Gunopulos, 2002). Due to this strength, research has used clustering to group lifestyle risk factors (Schuit et al., 2002), high-risk behaviors in adolescents (Petridou et al., 1997), and types of individuals that use child welfare services (Simmel, 2010). The benefit of clustering for our study is that it helps visualize the different groups of complex service need in Alberta (e.g., education, child welfare, and justice) (Ungar et al., 2014).

2017, Accounting, Organizations and SocietyCitation Excerpt :We find five variables from the NLSY that are available in relevant years and that theory suggests will be sensitive to the speed of a life history strategy. We use average age at first marriage, with older ages signifying a slower strategy (Chisholm, 1993, p. 9); average age at birth of first child, with older ages signifying a slower strategy (Griskevicius, Tybur, et al., 2011; Nettle, 2010); average number of children, with fewer children signifying a slower strategy (Nettle, 2010); whether the respondent has smoked daily at any time in their life, with not smoking signifying a slower strategy (Hill & Chow, 2002; Petridou et al., 1997); and the age at which the respondent began smoking daily, with older ages signifying a slower strategy (Hill & Chow, 2002; Petridou et al., 1997). We use a difference in difference analysis to test H1.
