At the Sixth World Conference on Injury Prevention and Control held in Montreal in May, the International Distinguished Career Award was presented to Injury Prevention editor Professor Barry Pless by the Injury Control and Emergency Health Services Section of the American Public Health Association in recognition of outstanding dedication and leadership in injury control and emergency health services with contribution and achievements that have had a significant and long term impact on the problem of injury. Dr Pless is a physician at the Montreal Children's Hospital and a professor at McGill University. Past recipients of the award have been Peter Vulcan, Leif Svanström, and Dinesh Mohan. Hal Stratton has been confirmed as the eighth Chairman of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). He heads the federal agency responsible for protecting the public against unreasonable risks of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products. He will serve a term that expires in October of 2006.
