The trepidation is engendered by the unenviable task of trying to follow Dr Barry Pless in this role. As the founding editor, he set and maintained high standards for the scientific quality and editorial integrity of the journal. The skills and perspective required to uphold those standards seem to come effortlessly to him after 13 years at the helm. For me, it is a daunting prospect to learn these skills “on the job” while continuing to ensure that that the journal remains relevant and timely for our readers and welcoming to the authors who submit their work.Fortunately, I don’t need to do this alone.
