Elizabeth McLoughlin, ScD, wears two hats in addition to a bicycle helmet. She is the Director of Programs at the Trauma Foundation located at the San Francisco General Hospital, and the Coordinator of the Academic Fellowship Program of the 10 year Violence Prevention Initiative funded by the California Wellness Foundation. Originally trained as a teacher, she has been working for the prevention of injury since 1973, first at a pediatric burn unit, then in a doctoral program at Johns Hopkins, then in New Zealand before coming to the Trauma Foundation in 1986. Her major concentrations have been in burns prevention, motorcycle helmet laws, injury data systems, and the prevention of violence. For fun, she biked across the United States, and voyaged under sail from Seattle, Washington to New Zealand.
