Abstract
The Life in Transit Program (PVT) is an initiative of the Ministry of Health focused on the surveillance and prevention of traffic injuries and deaths. It was implemented in 30 municipalities as of 2012. The correct implementation of the adopted PVT methodology is of fundamental importance for its effectiveness. The Objective was to compare the implantation of the PVT in the municipalities between 2015–2017, considering some crucial steps of the methodology of the PVT. A monitoring questionnaire was developed, in which the stages of the program methodology were considered. The questionnaire was applied to the coordinators of the PVT in each municipality that joined the program in the years 2015 and 2017 to compare the degree of implementation in this period. The questionnaire answered 30 and 27 municipalities respectively in 2015 and 2017. There was an improvement in the production of the single list of victims (74% in 2017) and final indicators of serious injuries (44.4% in 2017). The percentage of municipalities linking and producing final death indicators remained in 2015 and 2017. The PVT is still in the process of being implemented in the greater part of the municipalities. Further efforts by municipalities are required to carry out all stages of the PVT, given that, when properly executed, it is a well-known instrument in intervention on priority risk factors and reduction of serious injuries and deaths caused by traffic
