Knowledge and attitude of women towards intimate partner violence: a study of women in Tudun Wada community in Jos

Abstract

The study was a cross sectional study carried out among women of reproductive age who reside at Tudun Wada in Jos, northern Nigeria to determine their knowledge and attitude towards intimate partner violence. 150 consenting females aged 18–49 in the area were randomly sampled. 72% had experienced had IPV, among those sampled 83% believed it to be justified. During interaction with the women, a majority of those affected by IPV had no idea how or where to find help.
