Transport minister quits for drink driving

Australian Capital Territory Transport Minister John Hargreaves says he has let his family, community, and party down by being arrested for drink driving. The former police minister spoke with reporters and said he had never thought he was over the limit. “Over about five or six hours I had either six or seven glasses of wine,” Mr Hargreaves told reporters. Opposition Leader Bill Stefaniak, who was recently fined by police for using his mobile phone while driving, said Mr Hargreaves should not have quit the frontbench. Mr Stefaniak noted that two of the four judges of the ACT Supreme Court have also been booked for drinking offences, and no one called on them to resign.
