Pediatric flame burn injuries from adulterated kerosene explosion – A public health alert from Southern Nigeria
2022, Burns OpenCitation Excerpt :This pattern of a higher incidence of scald injuries in children is also seen in studies from the Middle East [9,10]. India [11] and in the developed world [12]. Pediatric burn injuries due to kerosene explosion were virtually absent as an aetiologic factor in earlier reports of burns from Nigeria [6,8,13] but there has been a rising incidence in recent years [1,14] correlating with periods of scarcity and high cost of petroleum products.
Non intentional burns in children: Analyzing prevention and acute treatment in a highly developed country
2019, BurnsCitation Excerpt :Scald and contact injuries occurring in the kitchen have been associated with drink and food preparation or food consumption. This finding has been corroborated in several studies [5,11,18,20]. Most of these accidents could be prevented if parents were better educated and more aware of potentially dangerous situations when preparing and consuming food and drinks.
Trauma mechanisms and injury patterns in pediatric burn patients
2018, BurnsCitation Excerpt :In contrast to scald injuries and contact burns, older boys were more often affected by flame injuries [11,20]. Most of these accidents occur when fire accelerators were used inadequately [4,18,29]. Our study confirmed these results.
Twelve years epidemiological study of paediatric burns in Ain Shams University, Burn Unit, Cairo, Egypt
2009, BurnsCitation Excerpt :Also in the age group of 5–15 years there is an increase in the number of child dropouts and children entering the labor force, which puts them at risk of an industrial accident. Analysis of age and gender records in our study showed that maximum patients were between 2 and 5 years of age which conforms to a previous study in our unit [3], but did not conform to other published reports [9–13]. These studies stressed the increasing incidence of childhood burns below the age of 3 years.
