Editorial board meeting report

    A summary of the editorial board’s discussions in Durban, 2006

    As has been our custom, the editorial board met at the last World Conference in Durban. As Fagin in the musical Oliver says, the theme was devoted to “reviewing the situation”. In general, most of the topics comprised a bundle of largely good news. I intend to share some of what was discussed with our readers because I think it is a precedent worth setting.

    Our managing editor, Rachel Harvey, commented on the journal’s financial stability which, in part, stems from closing the web access and applying page charges. She also discussed our first impact factor score (1.359), which, this year is over 1.5. The journal’s readership has greatly increased due to increased consortia deals with libraries.
