PEOPLE IN THE NEWS
In October, the American Bar Association honored Alan H Schoem, Director of the Office of Compliance of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), with the Mary C Lawton 2002 Outstanding Government Service Award. Schoem has led the CPSC’s efforts to facilitate the recall of thousands of hazardous products over the last five years. He has also been instrumental in working with CPSC’s Office of the General Counsel and the US Department of Justice in cracking down on companies that fail to report hazardous products to the Commission. The award recognizes Schoem’s achievements as a practitioner of administrative law and his career-long dedication to public service.
